Non-ferrous metals and mining company Sterlite Industries reported a whopping 60.27% rise in its consolidated net profit at Rs1,101 crore for the third quarter of the current fiscal on higher sales. The company, a subsidiary of Anil Agarwal-led Vedanta Resources, had registered a consolidated net profit of Rs686.93 crore in the same quarter last fiscal, it said.The company's net sales increased to Rs8,294.32 crore during the quarter compared to Rs6,669.28 crore during the October-December quarter of the last fiscal. Sterlite is in the business of zinc and lead through Hindustan Zinc; copper through Sterlite Industries India and Copper Mines of Tasmania Pty.It also owns Bharat Aluminium Company, which is into the making of aluminium and alumina. Another operating company, Sterlite Energy, is into commercial power generation business.
